Vintage Omega “Calatrava Style” Sub-Second 2317-15 1952

Rare and beautiful Omega “Calatrava style” vintage watch with serial number 12xxxxxx that dates back to 1951. This timepiece is in an exceptional condition. The beautiful matte silver dial topped of with amazingly aged copper coloured Dauphine hands and indices looks mesmerizing. The applied Omega logo with subtle painted letters look fantastic. This watch features a rare combination of dagger indices, two round indices on the “3” and “9” positions and the Arabic numeral “12” sitting on top like an emperor. It also features an eye-catching sub seconds part.
The reference number is 2317-15 and this piece houses the caliber 265 which is the successor of the coveted 30T2 movement.
The watch measures 34 mm in diameter excluding crown and 40 mm from “lug to lug”. It winds perfectly with great sounding winding mechanism. It ticks beautifully and clearly and brings you back 70 years in time. Stunning condition overall.

What we love:

  • Amazing copper coloured hands and indices
  • 3 types of indices
  • Powerful manual wound 265 caliber

What you should know:

  • We have done our best effort to find a similar watch, without success due to its rarity. We cannot say with 100% certainty that the OMEGA text is original and not repainted. Although we strongly think it’s original based on a similar dial we found
  • Small “gap” between case and bezel on left side but nothing that catches the eye
  • Serviced acrylic crystal

Omega is one of the most iconic Swiss luxury watchmakers currently around. Based in Bienne, Switzerland and founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. Omega was formally known as “La Generale Watch Co.” until incorporating the name Omega in 1903, when they became Louis Brandt et Frère – Omega Watch & Co. In 1982, the company officially changed its name to Omega SA.

Notable lovers of Omega watches:

Britain’s Royal Flying Corps chose Omega watches in 1917 as its official timekeepers for its combat units, as did the U.S. Army in 1918. Omega watches were the choice of NASA and the first watch on the Moon in 1969. In addition, Omega has been the official timekeeping device of the Olympic Games since 1932. James Bond has worn it in films since 1995; other famous Omega wearers, past and present, include Buzz Aldrin, George Clooney, John F. Kennedy, Mao Zedong and Elvis Presley.
